Kit list

Foot wear - sandals, trainers, wet shoes.

Under Layer -Swimming costume / swimming shorts

Base layers - football shirt or any synthetic material t - shirt,

Mid layers - track suit bottoms, fleece or long sleeves t-shirts (synthetic)

Outer layer - provided by the club, along with buoyancy aid and spray-decks

Windproof tops - If you have any of this kind of top these are great, usually made of pertex, or shell type of material. Light weight waterproofs are also good windproof material.

Other kit. - If you have a wet suit or any water sports equipment of your own try and bring them.

Spare dry clothes - as your canoeing clothes may, well probably will get wet.

Safety Kit issued - Before getting on the river you will be provided with a buoyancy aid and a helmet made to BS /EN standards, and a suitable person will aid you in its proper use.

When you get off the water have some food to munch on while you get changed. Bring some extra money as their will be a visit to the pub.

During club trips, all essential safety kit will be provided except for personal clothing i.e. wet suits. If you own one that is great and you should bring that along, but it’s not essential. Layers are always better than thick jumpers. Never wear cotton based clothes as they absorb water and become very heavy and do not have any heat retaining properties. Try to wear nylon clothes i.e. thermals, football tops and cycling stuff. These are lighter and dry off quicker. You will probably get away with a couple of nylon t-shirts and a pair of track suit bottoms and a crappy pair of trainers. Board shorts are ideal.

TIP: If you want to invest head down to decathlon for cheap, fairly decent wetsuits or you can head to Brookbank for some more specialist kit.
