About The Club
We are a group of kayakers based in Manchester, and our members are mostly students of MMU, although this is not a requirement; anyone can join the club, whether they are a student at our university, another institution or not a student at all. We welcome new members all year round.
We run weekly pool sessions every Wednesday at the Aquatics Centre on Oxford Road, with a meal before and a club social night out afterwards. We also usually get out to do a river trip or two every weekend (a beginner trip and an advanced trip if possible).
We also try to be present on all regional and national canoeing events, specifically those aimed at university clubs. If you are involved in any such events or would like to let us know about one, please send an email to the club or get in touch with one of us.
If you would like to join us on a river trip, or maybe go on a joint trip with your club or group, feel free to get in touch to organise something with us.
About the University
Manchester Metropolitan University was established in 1970 as Manchester Polytechnic and gained university status in 1992. MMU grew through the combination of several colleges, some of which were founded in the 19th century.
MMU is the fifth largest university in the UK with over 31,000 students spanning the five campuses, two of which are in Cheshire; the main campus is All Saints which is located on Oxford Road, not far from the University of Manchester. The Cheshire campus, being so far away from Manchester, has its own athletics union with its own canoe club.
NOTE: This is the website for MMU Canoe Club (Manchester Campus), not the Cheshire Campus which has its own athletics union and canoe club. Their link is below.
